This Spring 2026 Rockcreek Steel Drums is launching its new Elementary School Program Steel Drums In The Classroom

This program brings a complete two or four week Beginner Steel Pan program to your elementary school taught by your music teacher using Rockcreek Steel Drums’ instruments, equipment, music, lesson plans and training. After bringing beginner steel pan Artist In Residence programs and assemblies to 400 schools and community groups over the past 20 years, Rockcreek Steel Drums is expanding to help schools start an annual two or four week beginner steel pan program to your elementary school for a fraction of the cost of our artist in residence four day visits.

Over the past decade we have built a collection of 500 1950’s styled steel drum instruments ( the type of steel pans used in early steel bands in Trinidad in the 1950s when they were still called steel drums). The goal is to expand the reach of the art form to more schools and students. By providing the instruments, equip., music and training this program allows your elementary school to bring an annual steel band program to your school, giving grades 2-5 a chance to learn to play in a steel band playing melodies and learning band skills taught by your music teacher with Rockcreek’s help.

This April/May we have four slots available for schools in Maryland and parts of PA, VA, DC and DE to have a two or four week steel pan program. For School year 2026 we will have the ability to have 10 schools at a time run the steel drums in the classroom program.

The cost for a two week steel pan program taught by your schools music teacher is $2,400.
